Did you wear a suit to your interview?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For my interview at Western I wore dress pants, dress shirt, a casual looking pink tie and a grey v-neck sweater. No suit, but I got the acceptance. I was the only one now wearing some dark suit and I think that if anything it helped my chances. I know I definitely looked better than most of the guys wearing suits. So no, a suit is not "a must". As long as you look good and professional.

Thats good for you but horrible advice in general. Wear a suit, end of story... you got lucky. Your interviewing at a professional school, look the part.

I know what it is, I'm from the internet, I'm assuming you don't know where over 9000 originated from or you would have recognized my bear avatar. 😀

its a very cool select club 😎

If I were to wear a dress and a suit jacket would that be alright? It would be something I'd feel more comfortable in as opposed to a pants or skirt suit.

Someone asked this same question in an allopathic thread. General consensus was that a dress might be okay if it's knee length, professional cut, and a conservative color (ie: not red or patterned). Pantyhose + appropriate footwear as well of course. If you have a picture of the dress we might be able to give better feedback. 🙂

I would say a suit is the safe bet..but this is not what you MUST wear to an interview. One of the interviewers at PCOM joked about how every applicant usually looks the same and no one allows themselves to stand out. I think it is more important to be yourself. If yourself is not in a black suit...maybe a different color or a nice sweater and tie would suffice.

I am a female..but I have worn nice gray pants to each interview with a black blazer and some form of color...(shirt underneath....necklace..etc.). I've had acceptances.

Remember...there is no "Did they wear a suit" box that they fill in on their evaluation forms. But there is a "Maturity and Presentation" box. Don't be sloppy. Show your maturity. Be yourself.

If nothing else...BE YOURSELF!!!

Men should always wear suits. Women just need to look professional. I will say however, that Men can mess around with color a little bit more than women can. I have seen very classy looking suits that have bright orange, hot pink, even lime green shirts with a matching tie. As long as it is nice and doesn't clash colors are fair game. With women color is a little tricky. Since they are not confined to a suit per say, they need to keep their colors conservative: Brown, navy, Gray, Burgundy, Black.

Ok there is no "did you wear a suit box" but Ill tell you one thing, if I was an interviewer and I interviewed someone not in a suit right off the bat I'd probably be more of an ass and probably not score that person as well. Wear a suit it is not rocket science. Have people gotten in without one? Yes, but it should tell you something if 98% of male applicants wear one...jeeze.

for some reason my brain read "swimsuit" instead of just "suit". needless to say, this thread wasn't nearly as amusing as i'd hoped.

For any ladies out there struggling like I have been recently trying to find some appropriate interview attire...

GO TO MACYS!

I went to so many places, tried on so many suits and just couldn't find anything. I went there and they have such a variety of choices and the sales right now are REALLY good. Best of luck in your shopping ventures!

Along those same lines, Old Navy (surprisingly) has nice-looking, cost-effective suits too. I got a light gray one there that fit wonderfully. The suit is definitely a must... not only is it professional, I know that I for one felt more confident in it.
