When I apply next year I figure I'll have a GPA in this range. I could possibly get it to 3.50 if I take a few classes during summer I next year but that would mean delaying submitting AMCAS till July 1, 2008 and my transcript couldn't be sent to them until that same day. Also, I will graduate after the Spring semester of next year so I really don't want to have to do this. I am planning on taking my MCAT in January. If I get over a 33 will it even matter that I have a sub 3.5 GPA?

There will be no appreciable difference.

the difference is probably one class.

Was in the exact position as you when I applied. 3.46 GPA which became a 3.50 after my last year. 33 MCAT.

To answer your question, I went ahead and applied with the 3.46/33 and got three acceptances. And I didn't even apply smart (didn't even know about the MSAR).

So don't sweat it!

Sure there's a psychological impact but LizzyM once said to someone else who asked a question about GPA differences that adcoms are scientists too and know there's no substantial difference between two GPAs like that.

I would LOVE to go to OHSU. Absolutely love that area of the country. I'm a MI resident though so I don't know how much love i'll get from them.

Where'd you apply?

.02

but really, I don't think it will make a difference. Most people will round up in their heads to 3.5 anyway.

3.50-3.48=0.02
easy.

there's no much difference: your GPA is just low unless you're applying to TX school as a resident.🙂

3.48 looks like 3.4 and 3.50 looks like 3.5.

I agree. I don't think that it matters at all. But if it was me, I'd probably take the extra class to get that 3.5 😀 You probably don't need to though.

If you are an adcom member, I think it is possible that because you look at so many GPAs you develop a mental shorthand that tiers people. I know I have, with looking at so many MDApps profiles. The two numbers are obviously nearly the same, but just glancing at a gpa, 3.48 still gets shuffled into a lower tier, for me.

the difference bbetween a 3.48 and a 3.5:

3.5-3.48=0.02

not much of a difference in the adcomms eyes (i don't think)

two more Bs as opposed to As. Probably wont make a difference.

Ignore him -- he's just a baby troll.

OP, you're solid -- no adcom will be quite so rigid minded.

Read my reply in the post regarding the guy in community college.

Anyway, what i meant was that 3.48 looks a lot lower than 3.50 because.......nvm can't explain it, its not lower by much though.
