Glucocorticoids are distinguished from mineralocorticoids and sex steroids by their specific receptors, target cells, and effects. In technical terms, "corticosteroid" refers to both glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids (as both are mimics of hormones produced by the adrenal cortex), but is often used as a synonym for "glucocorticoid".

The reason why I asked this was UWorld had a question on the Cushing-like fat distribution sx which we usually associate with Glucocorticoids and Protease Inhibitors (for HIV)...anyways the Q asked what disease would a patient with this sx be most likely be treated for...two notable options were HIV and Osteoarthritis and I put down Osteoarthritis and got it wrong (it was HIV)...still a misleading question considering you do use glucocorticoids to treat Osteoarthritis althought I'm guessing I erred in the fact the dose prob matters

I'm thinking it has to do with the fact that you can treat OA with localized doses of intra-articular glucocorticoids rather than systemic glucocorticoids which therefore wouldn't have as high a risk for leading to Cushing's Syndrome.

I got that question wrong as well by the way.
