Can someone bullet some of the major differences in the process b/t becoming an MD vs DO? Thanks!
>>Shadowing a DO is recommended.
The admission standards are lower.
The end.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I didn't mean the admission process, I meant the educational and licensure processes.
To ask it another way, if you had one MD and one DO doctor working in the same office, would there have been any differences in process in which they became doctors?
You get to apply to osteopathic residencies as a DO and also have the option of applying ACGME too. Given the latest residency app season I wonder if more folks will start doing AOA residencies.
You will touch your classmates more in the first two years
You will touch your classmates more in the first two years, and you will have to take a different set of boards than the MD students.

Unless he/she is hairy and has some BO then it might suck something awful..
The Route to licensure for DOs:
M1
M2

M3
COMLEX Step II (USMLEs may be taken as well)
M4

Traditional Rotating Internship or PGY-1
COMLEX Step III
Licensure
Residency (In some states you need to complete 4 years for licensure: MI, WV, PA and one other state which escapes me, usually allowed after internship or residency)
For MDs:

Internship Year

So, if you think you may apply for some MD residencies would you have to take BOTH the COMLEX and USMLE? Can you be accepted into an MD residency if you have only taken the COMLEX boards?
