Hi everyone!!
i am struggling with whether or not I need a different personal statment for TY/preliminary programs? I am applying to radiology....

would appreciate any advice and would love to hear from other who did or did not write separate ones.

You do not need separate personal statements. Send the radiology PS to both radiology and internship programs.


Same goes for letters of recommendation. If you have more than 4 letters though... you can pick and choose which go to radiology vs internship.

I wrote separate ones (well, I reworked my "main" PS from my specialty application) for TYs and prelims. I think it is essential esp. if you are applying to competitive TY/prelims. How reading about your passion for radiology is going to make admissions people make the decision on whether you are going to be a good intern (and not try to "game the intern year", as has been amply discussed in this forum). Don't be lazy (or at least, don't appear lazy to the admissions folks). You shouldn't spend more thab 30 mins re-tweaking your radiology PS.

Did something similar. However, I just changed the last paragraph of my PS and addressed the samet things (for anesthesia). Takes less than 30 min and can't really hurt.
 
gotcha. thanks guys! i retweaked my last paragraph to talk about being an intern and managing patients, crap etc, etc.
now. did you make separated prelim and TY PS's?
