Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone has a list of all the different residency types and locations for the different branches of the military. I am looking to do EM and it looks like the AF only has two locations. If I apply first for civilian deferment then those, do that mean that there is 2/5 chance that I won't end up in EM and have to do something else? What if i apply for really competitive residencies for my last two? Can anyone tell me about the pros and ons of military residency? I know it's been discussed before, but those threads seem old.

I'm reasonably sure my information is correct, but don't quote me.

Army has a list of all residency locations/programs on their MODs website, which is probably not public info, though if you talk to a recruiter they could give you the details. Army EM residency has three locations: Brooke (San Antonio), Madigan (Tacoma), Darnall (Ft. Hood). I have no idea about AF, but I believe Army HPSP requires you to list all possible locations in your 5 choices prior to listing civilian deferment for match. You cannot apply for civilian deferment AHEAD of military residency programs. If you are dead set on civilian residency, don't got military. You getting civilian deferment means (1.) the AF residencies were full and (2.) they need more of that specialty than they can train within their own programs.
