Different Step 2 Question

I did alright on Step 1 (beat the mean but not a great score). I plan on taking Step 2 sometime in June/July so my score will be available for ERAS. Question is, will a good Step 2 score (i.e. >230) make up for the Step 1 score when it comes to cutoffs and interview offers?

Example: a school has a 220 Step 1 cutoff for interviews. Student gets 216 on Step 1 and 224 on Step 2. Will programs average the two scores together to get 220 and offer an interview; note the improvement on Step 2 and offer an interview; just use the Step 2 score and offer an interview; ignore the Step 2 score and deny an interview offer?

Most programs have a combined Step 1 and 2 cutoff score so the answer is yes.

so will a lower step 2 disqualify you from a cutoff?

Not necessarily. If you have a precipitous drop from Step 1 to 2, that may raise some red flags but using the original poster's scenario, a program with a cutoff of 220 combined, would still look at you with a 224 step 1 and 216 step 2.
