Hello!

I am new to this forum and am looking for any advice people are willing to give. I received my email of acceptance to the class of 2017 at NSUOCO today, and also just interviewed this morning at SCO (expecting to hear from them next week). I also have an interview at UMSL, but not until February. I am torn with what to do. NSUOCO is expecting a response in two weeks, but I am debating asking for an extension. I'm also debating asking UMSL to move my interview up to early/mid December if at all possible. I was just wondering if anyone who has been accepted to/interviewed at any of these schools could give me their opinions on them and decisions you've made. Also any advice from people who are currently attending or have graduated from any of these schools and why you made the decision to go there would be very helpful. Thank you!

Where do you want to go to school? Are any of the schools you mentioned your top choice or "safe schools"? Meaning that you applied to them incase you didn't get into your top choice? Ideally, you want to have your interviews as close as possible to each other so the deadlines kind of overlap. SCO should be getting back to you before the Nova deadline, they're fairly quick 🙂 if you want to go to Nova or SCO but still want to consider the other school, you'll probably have to pay the deposit to save your spot, that or see if you can have your interview date moved up.

Edit: I forgot to answer the other part of your question. I will be attending SCO this coming Fall 2013. I ended up picking SCO because I loved the school, everyone was super nice, the clinic is top notch - among the nicest I've seen. Also I use to live in NY but now live in FL and although I love the nice weather, I also miss having seasons so I'm excited to be back where it snows. I also loved SCO because it is a stand-alone optometry school. You have class with other optometry students, everyone is there for the same profession. My school now is really big, 47,000 students. I've been learning in auditorium-sized classes my entire time here. I've always imagined optometry school to be more small scaled, so that I can ask questions and not feel like I'm holding up the class. SCO really fit what I was looking for. Plus our class of 2017 Facebook group is up and running and all of my classmates are really friendly and nice 🙂

NSUOCO.

I'm not an alum, but our clinic had 4th year interns from 6-8 different schools and NSUOCO was consistently among the best prepared.

The small class size and access to the Indian Health Service gives a great clinical exposure to pathology. The Native American population has a high prevalence of diabetes and a lot of crazy refractive error issues, both are great learning experiences.
