Difficult to get into child neuro while in general peds residency?

Hi guys. I am a 4th year student currently applying for adult neuro, but I have my first peds neurology rotation scheduled later this month and am still interested in possibly pursuing peds neuro instead (mostly because I think I would prefer treating children instead of adults).

I understand peds neuro is an early match and I'm pretty late in the game... so I was wondering if anyone had experience trying to match into peds neuro while in their pediatric residency? Are there usually spots still available at solid ped neuro locations, or are only the malignant/non-desirable programs left once the match is over?

Any resident/attending out there with any thoughts on this, please respond! I greatly appreciate it! 🙂
