For those Family Physicians that have taken their re certification boards/ are veterans of the re certification process:

Would you say the re-certification exams are difficult/a big stressor in your lives that you are studying a lot for after so many years of practice?

In addition, if one was to not maintain their board certification status in family medicine, would this prevent him or her from being able to practice?

If you have an employer or do locums, being board certified is required. It won't prevent you from practicing but it sure makes it difficult to stay hired.

Gotta luv blue dog!!!

Makes sense, thank you. And how about the answer to my first question, how difficult are the recertification exams? Are they a big stressor in your lives after so many years of practice or not really?

I've re-certed once. I studied a bit for it, mostly concentrating on the stuff that I don't do much in practice, like OB. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
