First off I am only a junior in high school and have plenty of time to decide which school I want to attend and what major I want to study. However, through my free-time I have researched different schools and found two I am extremely interested in. I have the GPA/SAT scores to get in but, I can't decide between them. Both have their pros and cons.

School A
Microbiology Major (interesting classes)
Average 16 to 17 semester hours through freshmen – senior year
Great Science/Math Department
Renowned pre-med program for minorities
75% female student body (may suck for girls but, for guys it is cloud nine)
Tons of opportunities for pre med students

School B
Biology Major (no microbiology sadly, however biology curriculum at school B is really good)
Average 15 to 16 semester hours through freshmen – senior year
Great Science/Math Department (apparently science is the hardest department at school)
Good pre-med program – feeder into graduate schools
All Male school (sucks but, all girl school next to it)
Already contacted a number of alumni whom are attending physicians or medical students

I guess when I visit the schools my opinions of them will be deciding factor.

Sorry for ranting but, when I get to my senior I am applying early admission to both so I don't have to complete spring semester of high school.

Is 16-17 (or 15-16) semester hours a lot? How does this work? Do you go take each class everday ike in high school or on certain days of the week?

I like school A more. Are you sure that you can apply to both early decision or early action? I think early action is nonbinding while early decision you can only apply to one school and must go there if you are accepted. They both seem good to me. Aren't you a minority? Go to the school that's just about as good as the other AND includes a minority program...well that's the way I see it.😎

*School B also has a good minority program. Yes, both schools have early action.

You don't have plenty of time to decide on your college, don't kid yourself. You have time just don't say you have all the time in the world because you don't.

However, it is good that you are narrowing down the school choices.

It would help if we actually knew what schools A and B where.

I like school B more. Stinks that they don't have that combined major thing that school A does, but that is alright. Yeah, school B I would say.

16-17 credits really isn't that much. I try to do at least 18 a quarter to keep busy. As a science major you will probably have class everyday but you can sometimes work around and get a day or so off each week. Some classes are every day, some are 2 times or 3 times a week etc.

School A because it has 75% female population.

No brainer there buddy.

Well in that case they are pretty close to me. The thing that would make the decision for me is the total cost each year...well I'd need to see how much money in scholarships I'd get also (I'm counting on a full ride).

Another important factor to me is the name. When applying for a job, I'd like to be able to say that I graduated from a good college, or if they are really close, I guess it doesn't matter (Harvard and Yale). Ok someone correct me now lol-you guys always do.

Apply to both of them. Which one offerers you a full ride you should go for $$$ issues. Also, the 75% female school is good too.

A. I go to an all male high school. I would not continue that trend for another 4 years.

Do you know anyone who has had experience with both the schools you have shortlisted?

In best situation, do some more research, focus on your goal and you will get the answer from yourself.

Caution: In the present world, it is better to become the "Master of one field"

You won't be able to decide until you visit each college and talk to alumni of both.

If you still can't decide, apply to both. You're only in your Junior year, so you have a long time until you make that final decision.

The fact that you're thinking hard both your choices is a good sign though!

Credit hours depend on the college; at my undergrad, each class was 4 credit hours, so 16 credits was normal for a semester. Classes with labs (science classes) usually were 5 credit hours (4 for lecture, 1 for lab), so most science students ended up in the 17-18 range. However, at my local State University, most classes are 3 credit hours and most labs are 2 credit hours. Their usual course load is 12 hours. Likewise, my friend attended a school with a quarter system where anything under 18 credit hours was considered part time (though he only took 3 or so classes at a time - they just had more credit per class).
So, the important thing to look at are the number of classes you will be taking rather than how many credit hours they offer.

I second what has already been said; wait and see how much scholarship you will be offered and see how it feels when you visit the school. I got that "feeling" when I visited my undergrad, so hopefully you will too (and the choice is easy after that!).

if you like them equally well,
The last time i checked a coin as two sides
