Hi, I’m a high school senior trying to decide between the University of Wisconsin- Madison and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I would be a biology major (pre-med or pre-pa) in each and they gave me about the same amount of financial aid (Madison would give me $2000 less a year than UIUC). However, at UIUC I would be a biology major in the college of Liberal Arts and Science while at Madison, I would be in the college of Agricultural and Life Sciences. It may be harder for me to change my major (in case I need to) to something outside of the biological and agricultural sciences at Madison since I would have to change colleges. They are both big public research universities and both have hospitals that I could work or volunteer at. I visited UIUC and I thought the campus was fine, but I have never visited Madison and probably won’t before I have to make a decision due to COVID-19 (although people say Madison has a beautiful campus). UIUC is located in a small city and Madison is located in a big city. I am also Asian-American and I have seen that Madison is less diverse than UIUC in terms of race, although this part is not too important. Any information and advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
