Hi, all
I have a little dilemma that I need some help with (please 🙂)

I worked in the retail for 1.5 years and now that I am in my P1 year I decided to change and try hospital pharmacy.
I just had an interview and sorry to say somehow I came out disappointed..
I interviewed with HR and also with two super techs. They all were nice and friendly. But they also gave me somewhat negative perspective: they said that there are people in the pharmacy that will not be friendly, and I have been able to deal with them, and be careful asking them questions. They told me that they had a couple of interns quitting recently (did not really tell me why, I asked 🙂😀).
In my old pharmacy I at least felt somewhat welcomed, but in that hospital I felt like they tried to scare me ...
I know there are a few folks that work in the hospital, could you please tell me if you are happy there?
Maybe I ought to try to apply to a smaller hospital where people are not that stressed? Or maybe I should go back to retail since I was comfortable there...
Thanks for any input

No job is perfect. At least they are telling you some of the problems up front. You can work there for a few months, and if it is not for you, you can try and get another retail job.

wherever you go in life, you will get stepped on

that's the way it is

you are the "new kid"..........people will treat you like crap..........they will test you..........they will try and degrade you............it happens everywhere

you are making yourself sound scared..........."there's no place like home"

i mean, its cool and all if you want to stay in your small independent pharmacy, know all your customers by name, say "howdy" to the post man when he comes...........

but in real life, it is NOT like that

you will never find the job you truly love..........but u need to be able to adjust to the environments and grow up..........no one is going to take you by the hand and guide you throughout life.........the people who QUIT the hospital job obviously could not handle the heat...........retail life is no better with floaters, techs on minimum wage, and sick customers

don't get scared by an interview...........they are only "weeding out" the weak students.............

give it a try with an open mind..........you may end up loving it

good luck

Pharmacy tends to attract introverted neurotic people with zero personal skills. Don't become that person.

You want to become the person that everyone gets along with. Perhaps this hospital is the place where you can make a difference. I would think it's an opportunity of a lifetime.

^^^ Agree with above poster.

No matter where you go for your job, there will always be people who will be condescending to you. I had started to work at a local chain pharmacy for the first time during the summer after my P1 year, and there were some technicians that had worked there for years that treated me like s*** whenever I asked questions. I have a few friends working in a hospital, and they still experience similar disrespect with higher experience technicians.

But, at the end of the day, you've just got to be the better person and deal with it professionally, as a future professional. Better just get used to it and think of it as practice for dealing with others. You'll find those skills very useful in the future 🙂.

Thank you all for helping.
All the replies were very helpful - I accepted the jon this Monday!

I hope that I will be able to learn a lot and make the right choice of practice later - when it is time ...2011...
