  1. Pre-Optometry
I am a junior in undergrad and am confused as to whether to apply for an optometry school this summer (meaning that I will be attending in fall 2010 if I get in) or take a year off and apply next summer and attend in the fall of 2011. This confusion is because I don't have a particularly high GPA; this is basically what my statistics are:

GPA: 3.05
major GPA: 2.86
Over 300 hours work experience at an Optometrist's

I have not taken my OATs yet but am wondering if I should wait a year, bring my GPA up, and then apply, or just take my OATs this year and apply. Thank you for any feedback.

I say get your GPA high up as you can and retake any pre-req classes that you got lower than a B on.

If you really had your heart set on applying, then why not take the OAT, do as best as you can, apply to some schools and see what happens. Worst comes to worst you go through your senior year and then apply again. I was in a similar boat to you with a sub-par GPA and I decided to go ahead and take the OATs and I applied to 10 schools (getting into 3). If you apply early in the fall, then by the time you would get a few interviews, there's a chance that you would know a few of your fall grades to help you out a little. Just my thoughts, good luck with you journey.

thanks for the feedback.
so did you end up going to an optometry school then?

I will be going to Nova in the fall.

I agree with eheaps.
Just be sure to apply really early (Before Sept. 1st) for the rolling admissions schools, and you should have a decent chance.
