Ok, so here's the deal; I have 2 interviews coming up in NYC at the end of this month. After visiting Stony Brook I explored the city and really don't think I would be happy living there. I can't see myself living in such a huge place. My problem is that I don't have any acceptances yet. I've gone to 6 interviews, been waitlisted at 2. I have good stats (3.92, 35N) so I'm pretty confident about getting into at least one school. I was thinking about cancelling the NYC interviews, but am hesitant to do so since I haven't been accepted yet. I guess what I'm asking is, should I take the time and spend the money to interview in NYC, or cancel them? Do you think a visit to the schools might change my impression of NYC? Is it not as bad as I made it out to be?

dude, your numbers are sick and you'll prolly get in somewhere. But there are no guarantees. That being said, I would never ever cancel any interview unless I had at least one certified acceptance in hand.

Visit. What's so bad about New York? I've done undergrad here and i'm staying for medical school. There are an unlimited amount of opportunities here...definately come to the interviews and see whta you think. + you're not in anywhere yet. Your #'s are great, but don't count your chickens...

Stony Brook is in Brooklyn, right? So it probably is a bit different from Manhattan (Mount Sinai) and Bronx (Einstein).

Give them a try and I think NYC will take some time to adjust to for some, but it's such a vibrant city, I won't miss out on it.

Stony Brook is out on Long Island, but in order to get there I had to drive through NYC. Since I was there I decided to explore a bit.

I can understand that some people might not like NY, but you should know that living in NYC is totally different than visiting (in my opinion). You should def. give it a visit.

Come to New York. You will never get lost in the big city because you will spend most of your time studying.

SUNY Downstate is in Brooklyn (not Stony Brook)

In my opinion, I think it's totally worth interviewing at Sinai (Manhattan) and Einstein(Bronx). Yes, Sinai is definitely IN the city, but it's a sweet school with a great rep. It is at least worth checking out. In addition, I think going to med school in nyc is much different than working there. You'll probably get a chance to ask students while you are visiting to get a better idea. It's totally an opportunity you should take though to at least visit.

AECOM is also a great school that is affiliated with some good hospitals. It is well-connected from what I hear and also is in a nicer part of the Bronx that is much quieter than you might think (ie NOT in the south bronx).
