I'm beginning to look at schools for next cycle, and I came across Pitt's area of concentration in disabilities medicine. I've spent about 5 years working with individuals with developmental disabilities and would love to incorporate this into my future medical studies. I don't know if I would be competitive for Pitt (all depends on the MCAT score), but are there any other programs that have a concentration similar to this?

Sorry I'm not answering your question directly, but while Pitt does discuss this on their website, I'm sure many other medical schools have it as well. If not the way Pitt has it in an organized track, its still there, but don't limit yourself to medical schools solely based on this criterion! But, on the flipside, only apply to schools that you could see yourself attending. As in, if there's some weird medical school that openly advertises that they do not, whatsoever, have a development disabilities program/track/focus, don't apply there lol!

Thanks! I had just never seen anything like it indicated before, and I thought it was super cool and right up my alley. The opportunity to work with individuals with disabilities will be something I'll look for in med schools, even if it's through community service or something.

There is plenty of work to be done.
