Disability Insurance Recommendations?

Hi,

I am in the process of purchasing addiitonal disability insurance as an attending ophthalmologist and wanted to get your experience so far.

I am debating between Ameritas, Mass Mutual, and Berkshire Guardian. People keep mentioning Guardian/Berkshire's enhanced medical own occupation and how it is amazing, but I cannot tell if it is a marketing gimmick. Ameritas is definitely cheaper, but does that mean they are less likely to pay out a claim? Thanks!

Guardian and MassMutual have better partial disability language and better COLA rider. They all have the same "own-occupation" language. Ameritas is very competitive with their rates. If the rates are within 10%, I would recommend Guardian or Mass. If it's more than a 10% savings, I would consider a policy with Ameritas.
