Disadvantage to late submission of DAT score?

I'll be applying in 2011. Since the DAT is conducted only in November and February of each year and I'm not ready to take it in February of 2011, I'm going to take the DAT in November of 2011. But then schools will receive my DAT score in December of 2011. Will there be any disadvantage to this?

Um...where did you hear you can only take the DAT in Feb or Nov? You can take the DAT practically any day of the year aside from major holidays and sundays.

The DAT can be taken year round, I don't know where you got that info. Do some more research if you're serious about it.

I was referring to the Canadian DAT. I guess I should take the American one then.

I also saw from your previous posts that you are planning on taking the MCAT next year and applying to med school as well. I suggest you figure out what field you are actually interested in, b/c applying to multiple health professional schools during the same cycle doesn't exactly show adcoms your commitment to their profession.

I'm not actually planning on taking both and applying to both. I'm currently trying to decide between the two and once I make my decision, I'll only take one type of test and apply to one type of school.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought adcoms have no way of knowing if you applied to both dental and med schools unless you tell them?

So.. You are going to lie when the form asks if you are applying to any other professional schools?

Unless you have a great GPA and think you can do great in DAT, then I suggest try for American DAT instead of waiting till Nov for Canadian one.

Plus, if you take the DAT on Nov 2011, most schools will not have your scores till mid Jan.

Well good luck trying to decide which profession will suit you best. But like sfoksn said, the AADSAS application will ask "Have you previously, or are you currently applying to a health profession school other than dental school", so dental school adcoms will know if you are applying to med school.

I wasn't aware the application specifically asked about it. I'll tell the truth if I end up applying to both, but I guess I should just stick with one so I won't have to say I'm applying to both.

Agreed. I remember someone telling me about the health professions being connected more than we think.

I heard a story from my friend who was applying to medical school about someone who tried to cheat on the MCAT. Supposedly you get black listed from all future pre-health exams and pretty much anything that is tested by prometric (which is a ton).

In addition to this is probably the most important factor: Both tests seem like the same content but are VERY different. The tests are designed differently and require each their own very specific way of studying. Think long and hard about what you want to do with your life and don't you dare take the DAT as a backup if you suck it up on the MCAT. The dental gods will frown upon you.



P.S. If you do apply to both programs, at least when they ask you the question "Why not medical?" at your interview you can tell them the truth. "I tried medical and failed, this was my second choice"
