I'm about to write my PS. Can I write my essay on the challenges that I've had to overcome and how it prepared me for dental school or is there a separate section on the application for another essay in which I can explain my disadvantaged status? I'm asking because I think at least the medical school application has another section like that. Thanks!!

I know for sure that AADSAS has a section for the disadvantage status, yet, sometimes it is necessary to explain these things in the essay because in my opinion it can greatly impact our decision to become dentists and the reason as to why we want to become one. At least my essay has that perspective.

Agreed, but you need to be careful. If it's 1 or 2 specific occurrences, then definitely explain how those experiences molded you, but if you're talking about a "list" of things I'd use a bit more discrepancy. You absolutely do not want to make it a "woe is me" statement. Be sure to explain your past as straightforwardly as possible and then focus on the future.

As one dean of admissions explained it to me, "Nobody wants a future disaster or someone who has **** hit their face while walking down the street."
