disadvantaged or not?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you're actually financially disadvantaged, I think you would know.

You will probably need to provide supporting documentation if you make that claim.

This is a self-designation. Do you think that you grew up "poor" and as a result were at a disadvantage in comparision with other college students?
If you self-indentify and it seems like +pity+ then it could put you in a negative light as a whiner. However, if you did have struggles in childhood that put you at a disadvantage in comparison to most college kids, then you are legit in self-identifying as "disadvantaged".

If you "check the box" you will be asked the size of your family, familiy income when you were 0-18 (average), whether you received gov't assistance (free lunch, food stamps, gov't health care, gov't housing assistance, welfare, etc), if you worked before age 18 and if your wages at that time went to pay household bills or if it was your own spending money. You will also be asked to provide a % breakdown of how college costs were met (your money, family money, academic scholarships, need based grants, loans, etc). You will also be asked your opinion of whether there were enough doctors and other health care providers in your community.
