Disadvantages of 3-Year Anesthesiology Programs?

So I recenlty became aware of the 3-year anesthesiology programs. I also looked at the number of hours you are expected to spend in ward at those, and it wasn't significantly higher than 4-year anesthesiology programs. So I think the amount of knowledge and expereince one obtains through one of these programs would be inevitably smaller than if one had partaken in the four year program. Or do we simply call them three year programs because they don't include the PGY-1 year?

So if I were to pursue the 3 year route, would I hugely be at a disadvantage in terms of securing a job or getting into a competitive fellowship? Thank you guys in advance.

Anesthesia is 1 internship year (TRI, IM, Surg) + 3 years of anesthesia.

So if a program is listed as 4 years, it has the first internship year (which is NOT in anesthesia) built in. These are referred to as "categorical" programs. You'll spend all 4 years at the same program.

If a program says its only 3 years, its means that you must also apply for your internship year through ERAS. You'll do a 1 year internship at one program, then 3 years of anesthesia at the "advanced" program you matched in to.

So either way, you're still doing 3 years of actual anesthesia. Fellowships aren't affected one way or the other.

I actually heard they want to ineease anesthesia to 4 years so one gets more critical care. Plus the one year internship
