Discouraged while studying

Anyone else get discouraged the more you go on studying for the DAT? I just finished the Gen Chem Chad videos, it took me two weeks to get through them all, but I still feel like I learned nothing. I took tons of notes, basically wrote exactly what he did on his dry erase board, and took all quizzes and I still feel dumb about Gen Chem. Does it get easier when I drill Destroyer later in my study schedule? I just don't feel like I can recreate any of the answers when it comes time for the real DAT. I'm planning on taking the DAT late May/ early June after finals are over.

Practice, practice, practice. Do you feel discourage when you are taking Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or Molecular? People are saying, these classes are hard to get an A. Well, the DAT is the same thing. If you are able to pull these grades off, then you are able to pull that DAT. The DAT have very basic questions, and it really comes down to who studied the most efficiently as oppose to who is smarter (ex. MCAT).

I know it takes practice, but I thought I'd atleast understand a little bit of the Gen chem. I guess I'll just do the quizzes again until I understand the stuff. I don't really want to spend 2 weeks watching the videos again when I have to move on to Org, Bio, QR etc..Does it get better with sample tests like destroyer?

For me, I only *really* learn and understand when I start applying what I know. It might be a slow start with the Destroyer GC/OC, but the more you do, the more you'll pick up quickly, and the more you'll feel like the boss for the DAT =)

Thanks for the kind words. I think you may be right. I just felt bad about basically failing every quiz from chads vids, and thought I'd ask if I was the only one. I may try putting all of chads quiz questions onto flash cards and do those twice a day or something while I start the Org section for tomorrow. that way I won't forget the material right away.

I'm feeling the same. I'm powering through biology now Anne moving onto GC chad stuff next week. I hasn't feel like I'm retaining anything 🙁

I never felt like I retained ANYTHING. I also knew I would never feel ready for the test. So, once I just couldn't stomach any more studying, I took the darn thing.
I have a bad habit of setting really high goals for myself, though, and then doubting myself the whole time I'm going about achieving them. It's definitely a vicious cycle, but oh well. I guess it keeps me on my toes and humble. I'm a worrier.
ANYHOW, stop doubting yourself. And, if you're like me and just can't seem to stop, try to push it to the very back of your mind. It's normal. Confidence doesn't always equate to the best scores. Pride cometh before the fall, ya know! 🙂

I felt the same way. Just reread ur notes and do the quizzes again. Write down how to solve certain problems and topics on the note cards. That way when it comes back to reviewing how to solve certain problems while practicing you can easily find what your looking for. Organize yourself and focus. Sit down and just do it *Insert Nike sign here*.

Give some practice test to check your understanding.. Try Kaplan practice or topscore.. Just do gen chem if you want... Do destroyer keeping in mind that these are the hardest questions you might get on your DAT...

What gen chem material are you struggling with in particular?

I'm struggling remembering how to do certain equations. Like a week ago I felt very strongly about the Ksp and Qsp equations, but now I don't know how to solve them anymore. I'm afraid that I'll just forget how to do it when they appear on the DAT. Sometimes I don't really know exactly what they are asking for and how to go about solving it because I don't fully grasp the concept in its entirety no matter how many times I re-watch it or think about it.
