*sigh* I can't believe I made a new username for this...

So I've been doing a little forum digging, and the general consensus is that a dismissed misdemeanor i.e "never convicted" but charged does not need to be reported to AMCAS. Now this goes in line with what I thought before, but I don't actually know the source of this belief. The pdf that goes with AMCAS doesn't help very much. Does anyone know if this is indeed true?

I was charged with, and plead guilty to, a hilarious/awesome misdemeanor years ago but it was dismissed in court for being too funny. I was told that this didn't matter to AMCAS (ignoring the secondary questions that delved a little deeper), but now that I'm sitting on a couple acceptances, I want to make sure that I'm in the clear. Can anyone help me with this? 'ppreciate it.

If I remember correctly, AMCAS specifically states to exclude dismissed misdemeanors (I believe their exact wording is dismissed after completing probation or something like that). And as long as you answered the secondary questions honestly, I would think you're in the clear. I only ran into few secondaries that even asked anything beyond convictions, so for most secondaries you probably didnt have to report anything.

At worst, it might show up on the certiphi background check, but since it's not a conviction and you didn't lie on your apps, it shouldn't be an issue.

If you are still concerned about it though you can order a Certiphi background check for yourself through their website.

Just answer exactly what the question asks and you can't go wrong. If it specifically asks for convictions and you weren't convicted then you are cool.

i got a dismissed misdemeanor when i was 18...got my certiphi background check and it didn't show up so i never said i got one..

medical schools use certiphi

Go to the AMCAS application itself. It asks if you've been convicted and the circumstances under which you write "no." This includes your circumstances if I recall correctly.
