Dissertation/Thesis?

I wasn't really sure where to post this, so I apologize if it's in the wrong forum. I was just curious if most pharmacy schools required one, Ive never really heard anyone talk about it. Ive read through quite a few posts on here and it seems most people are worried about: Getting into pharmacy school, taking the PCAT, and being able to keep their grades up while in the program. I'm sure curriculum varies from school to school, but any input would be appreciated.

Not for a professional degree (Pharm.D.). It is required for a real doctorate (Ph.D.) in one of the pharmaceutical sciences or what-have-you.

Midwestern didn't require one of me, although I had six small projects that could have turned into a poster. Minnesota requires a paper for their graduates (although I've never seen anyone fail the paper).

No, the master's thesis or dissertation is still a graduate student's domain. Be happy. This is quite a lifechanging sort of project.

What is a poster? Also, to what are you referring when you say, "This is quite a lifechanging sort of project?" Was pharmacy school lifechanging for you? (I did a thesis for my masters and it was not lifechanging.)

Pharmacy school was lifechanging, but most of my education happened outside school. I did take enjoy it as an undergraduate experience, so I didn't exactly take the program as seriously as most of my classmates did. I was quite the renob then. I think I'm less so now.

Poster: One of those poster presentations that you see at the various conferences or what we did for science fair.

I envy you that the Master's thesis wasn't lifechanging. I wish my master's thesis wasn't such a lifechanging event. It's an exercise in frustration with all of the deadends of research. My doctoral dissertation proposal is due at the end of the fall term, so I'll be plenty busy before then.

ummmmm...... yes but no.
it is not as intense as it would be from a phd standpoint at all but we do have to "defend" our proposal as well as our research in front of a panel of professors.

our program is different than most though....

we get two grades for it the first semester (they are done in the 4th year) you have to write what you're going to do for your research project. you can do original research or you can do a drug lit review. it is a 30 min oral presentation as well as a paper.
the second can either be another presentation or a poster project where you are grilled by the professors. the second one is about your results.


its kinda difficult to explain without going into great detail.

yes people have failed ours but you'd have to basically not do it or plagerize or something.


oh and topics/projects must be approved prior to any work done (you have to write a proposal). it was due last may.
