You have to check with each school you are applying to. I don't think they particularly care if it is elective courses, but some schools are a little more picky if you have prerequisite courses that are distance ed. Most schools don't care or take it on a case to case bases, but other schools, like VCU do not take online classes for prerequisites no matter what--even when I explained that all of the tests were taken at the distance education center on campus. Here's what I got from the school's I applied to:
ECU - it's fine
UNC - They said it's fine because they know NC State distance ed classes are good. I don't know if that means it is generally fine overall or what.
Maryland - Case to case basis/will contact if they have questions
Louisville - It's fine
Kentucky - As long as it's from an accredited institution, it's fine
Temple - It's fine/will contact if they have questions
VCU - do not take internet classes at all
