I'm currently working on the "how will you bring diversity / contribute to the class" type of secondaries. I'm ORM and though I talk about some immigrant family struggles in other essays, it doesn't seem as appropriate to totally make my diversity essay about this.

Instead, I want to focus on some of my artistic/creative interests since I think they're a bit more unique, but I'm not quite sure how to frame them. I'd like to talk about my experiences in
  1. flow arts + performance -- the most unique I think, but already described throughout my application and as a most meaningful activity
  2. lifelong musician of multiple instruments -- in an orchestra for this throughout college + took some classes to show, but I could also talk more about doing it in my own time as well
  3. doing creative writing my whole life -- also have a minor in this
These all seem kind of in the same vein, so I feel like I can maybe link 2 of them together but doing all 3 seems messy. They're all included in my work/activities already as well. What would you guys recommend? Do you think these are good topics for this essay?

Also, these have all been huge parts of my life and definitely shaped the way I think/exist, but it still feels a little difficult to *really* articulate how this lets me "contribute" uniquely lol. If anyone's done anything similar, what parts did you try to focus on? I feel like there's a lot about teamwork, discipline, etc that are genuinely true, but feel a little shallow or generic to write about :/

Thanks 😀

Talk about the first two. Maybe you can mention how you want to start a med student band and perform in the talent show. We would eat that up at my school. Personally I'd say don't talk about how this will make you a better physician or give you a leg up in professional life. "Discipline" and "teamwork" are sufficiently implied. That stuff is intangible and I've never read an explication of it that sounded convincing, let alone good. My art was literature and in my app I just talked about poets I loved.
