Hate to bore whoever's reading this with yet another thread seeking secondary advice, but any advice/opinion is greatly appreciated. I'm trying to decide my topic for my diversity essay and struggling a bit. My two ideas are:
D1 athletics
Pros
-very uncommon sport and probably the most unique thing about me
-would stress my experience and passion with healthy living and how I would bring that passion to the student body and patients.
Cons
-It's already a significant part of my PS, one of my MM activities, and largest hour count, so emphasizing it even more in my secondaries as the most interesting thing about me could look one-dimensional
love for foreign cultures and languages
pros
-cultural appreciation is more obviously a good diversity topic
-would emphasize less common forms of cultural and language engagement (local Deaf events, intensive Arabic study, volunteering while abroad with locals instead of traditional mission trip type programs)
-this aspect of my interest and personality is not well developed in my primary
cons
-my experiences are not exceptionally unique like with athletics- lots of people study abroad, study languages, etc. and simply claiming to be culturally competent carries little weight (in other words I don't feel I have the experiences to back it up as well as with athletics)
Do either of these sound like good topics? which is better? any thoughts are appreciated
