So a lot of medical schools seem to like diversity and want to know what I can bring to the class. I am a white girl so not much diversity there but I mentor a minority girl as my little sister and have shadowed a good amount of hours in clinic's that aim to serve the underserved.. Is this something to mention as a "diversity"? I'm struggling to figure out what to say without seeming cliche...
Readers of the essay are looking for your ability to understand the importance of diversity in the way you understand others who aren't like you because you will be trying to establish trust with those who don't share your background or perspective on life. What insights do you have to help create a safe learning space for everyone and not be afraid to talk about very challenging issues.
