Hello,

I'm just wondering how many xanax Goro will Rx me for this question, but here goes:

I keep getting diversity outreach emails from several SNMA and diversity interest groups from the schools which I will be interviewing at, which is great; I am interested in participating and engaging with these IF I get into med school.

I just haven't had the time to respond to these and work out dates/times to meet (which sometimes fall the day before/after interview). Is it ok to ignore them? I am really just interested in interviewing at the school and seeing how happy the students are, and learning more about the curriculum. I just don't know if ignoring these e-mails will have some sort of negative impact on my application.

Arguably I could just be replying to these in the time it takes to ask this on SDN, but I'd rather just make interview day as short and sweet as possible. Participating in this kind of group will probably be more important for some schools vs others.

Probably just being neurotic :-\. Hope everyone's enjoying their Sunday.

I would not ignore the emails. If you don't think it will work out to meet with them (aka missing too much time from school/work, cost of an additional hotel stay or something) then respond and politely decline for above reasons, but that you are very interested in the school and participating in the group if you matriculate. Maybe some people think that's overkill for an email that's probably mass sent to a group of applicants, but it's always better to be gracious and polite instead of just letting the email rot in your inbox.

If you can swing it though, I'd meet with them. It won't hurt you not to meet with them, but it can definitely help. You never know who is on the admissions committee and can vouch for you in addition to your interviewers.

Reply. Stay in contact. It will help you.

I interviewed at a top 10 school very late during their revisited weekend for minority applicants and was invited to attend part of the program. Like a ***** I refused because my grandmother was picking me up after the interview (this was before she had a cell phone). I didn't get accepted. Probably one of the stupidest decisions I've made in my life.

Also, I was part of SNMA at my school and we would always try to meet applicants. If we really liked them we would tell the deans and they were always accepted.

What better way to see how happy students are?! If anything, those events were what stood out to me the most during my interviews. The current students can let you know about support offered to students of color, how happy they are and the like. If you can't attend, just politely decline, but if you can attend a check-in after your interview, then I'd highly recommend attending it!

Good luck!
