Diversity essay ideas
As the title states I am working on my diversity essay since every single school wants one and have been going back and forth if what I have in plan fits or not.
My current plan is to write about my upbringings in a middle eastern country during a civil war, the experiences that came with that, the values I learned and the culture that I represent coming from that region.
I then moved to the united states for college on my own. I wanted to talk about how different the culture was but how I was able to use many of the values I learned back home to immerse myself into this new community whether on campus as a tutor working with different students or a volunteer at the hospital in a city that has a very diverse patient population.
I want to tie it to medicine to talk about how my experiences in very different cultures have prepared me to connect and understand people from many different backgrounds specifically those that come from war impacted and disadvantaged backgrounds. How I can understand their concerns and mistrusts when it comes to healthcare.
Would this be a correct place to talk about those things or should I look deeper into other things? My narrative for my PS was similar in a sense that it was the conflict and the collapse of healthcare that really motivated me to pursue medicine and then how I want to pursue a career in medicine with a focus on global health research and ways to overcome barriers to healthcare delivery in resource restricted environments.
Any advice would be appreciated! If you have any questions which you think might help me brainstorm other things to talk about, that would also be very helpful.
Thank you in advance and sorry for the long post!
