I hope everyone is having an amazing holiday! Just a brief background of myself. I am a BIO degree graduate with 3.3 GPA, (my sGPA probably lower than this) who wants to go back to pre med track, planning to do DIY postbacc at local university to improve my science GPA, Statistic - C+ , Gen Bio 1 C , Gen Chem 2 C, OChem 1 F, 2 Bio electives classes with a C+ and C-
. (these are my worst I have Bs and As in other science classes)

I had taken math Statistic but got a C+, to make it up instead of retaking it, I took Psychology Statistic and received an A. However, I learned that Psychology courses do not count toward sGPA which I’m trying to improve. I’d like to know IF taking BIOSTATISTIC is the right decision.
( math is the only additional science class I can take for spring) ( all other available bio electives I took them already)

I would like to know if I should retake the classes where I received Cs or just take more upper level science classes?

One last question please, since I’ve been out of school for a while where can I get research experience?

Thank you so much for your time reading and please kindly pardon my ignorance if I asked anything wrong as I am still getting familiar to this forum. Wishing everyone a happy holidays ahead.

Welcome to the forums.

Have you reached out to admissions professionals at the schools closest to you or are a high target on your wishlist? Are all the grades you mentioned taken while an undergrad (not as postbac DIY)?

Why did you have low grades? Why did you take psych statistics as a bio major during undergrad? How long have you been out of school?

Getting research is extremely difficult in a DIY postbac. You should look for more formal (expensive) postbac/SMP programs if you want research.

Statistics courses in the Psychology department are generally accepted to fulfill the Stats prerequisite. Instead of taking stats a 3rd time trying to improve that specific GPA calculation segment (science GPA) I recommend taking other upper level science courses.
Don’t overload your course schedule when you retake Organic Chemistry, to give yourself time to master it.

Thank you for your time and response. No, as I was not fully committed to premed in undergrad as I was unsure of my career goal and started to struggle in science classes, so I do not have target schools yet.

Yes, all the grades are from undergrad. I was very undecided during under grad, I jumped from majors to majors, which is why I have 3.3 gpas despite having bad sGPAs, from psychology and other humanities, even pre nursing at one point. I kinda switched to bio last minute which is why I have downward trend in sGPA as well. I graduated last spring and decided to switch to nursing so I took a semester break.

I thought about SMP but it requires full time commitment as opposed to DIY postbacc, and I am currently working full time ( to support myself and school) since undergrad as a nurse aide( which is why I strongly considering Med school after being exposed to different fields)

Thank you again.
