currently on deferral year and starting med school next year.

I have had a set of experiences that have exposed me to OMFS both as a patient and working in the ER as a tech. I read that UAB has a route for those coming from medicine. Don’t care about time, effort, opportunity loss, I have only 15-20 years to give to my career anyways as a non-trad.

I’d like the ability to have my own pp, still go in hospital as a call doc, and for me it isn’t about the specialty but the individual training. I’m also not keen in doing plastics or ent, as I am more interested in the dental aspect than I would be learning about removing thyroids or surgery on areas not face / oral .

Some factors if this is a feasible route for me to go for as an M1, can anyone share info if …

1) you get in-state tuition during the dental school portion?

2) can you moonlight during dental school with your medical license since you completed intern year

3) do you get stipend all 7 years?

This is a path so infrequently traveled I would advise the best way to go about it is to extern at the program and ask these questions face to face. I’ve also heard Harvard and Tennessee offers a path for med students.

Your right. I’ll network m1 year and seek an OMFS mentor at my school. Practical next steps.
