I'd like to open this thread to those who are interested in a DDS/Ph.D or DMD/Ph.D program. I was accepted at University of Louisville School of Dentistry 12/1/15, and have since gone through the process of applying/getting accepted into the dual DMD/Ph.D program. For those of you who may be interested in this program, or the DMD/Master's in Oral Biology program please do not hesitate to ask!

How long is the program? Do you complete your Ph.D alongside your DMD?

Many schools have you complete D1+D2, complete the Ph.D, and then finish dental school.

Why did you choose a dual DMD/PhD s graduating as a DMD and then doing a PhD with a specialty (ie. Perio-PhD)?

which doesn't really make sense since you learn a lot of clinical stuff in D2 year and having 3+yrs of gap between D2 and D3 years? idk...

Yea well if you're getting the Ph.D you're 90% not going into clinical dentistry.
