I was wondering if anyone knew or could help me out on the following situation. I got into dental school without obtaining a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan. I am now in my first-year of dental school and have been thinking that I should have probably stuck with my first instinct and gone to med school.

Does anyone know if it is possible to transfer to med school using credits obtained from this program? Would I have to start as a first-year, because I have seen that some can enter as 3rd year students? Does anyone know which schools allow transfers?

Any help/advice would be appreciated. thanks a lot

Ask this in the Allo forum, maybe you can get more help there. But the simple answer is you will not be able to skip any years out of Med School, and you will have to start as an M1 just like anyone else, period...

Not possible in the U.S. You can't get around the MCAT.

However, did you know that if you pass Step 1 of the USMLE after completing dental schools (yes, you are eligible), you can try to gain entry into one of several maxiollofacial surgery training programs in the U.S.? A satisfactory Step 1 score and a favorable vote by the admissions committee will start you in year 3 of the M.D. program, and you are expected to complete a maxillofacial surgery residency....though not everyone does. I know a couple of people who have done this and they actually ended up doing a regular residency after medical school. I'm assuming that you might want to use both your dental and medical degrees, though. The University of Maryland has this program and I believe NYU does, too. It's a long way to get your M.D. but it is 6 years vs. 8 if you are going to complete dental school.
