Pros and Cons of each program?

What are your thoughts?

Both are extremely good programs. The deciding factor should be more or less where you feel more comfortable. Personally for me Chicago is closer to the family then Des.

I was accepted at CCOM and was invited to interview at DMU. Both schools are great, top tier DO schools. The deciding factor for me has been that Chicago is my home, and that Chicago is an excellent city for medicine (great for clinicals and residency spots). Needless to say, I cancelled my interview at DMU.

CCOM's tution is 10K> DMU's with Chicago's cost of living also. I'm having a hard time choosing since I live in Chicago right now and neither program is really "close to home."

Are the rotations at sites that much better at CCOM than DMU? The ability to rotate through stroger-cch is nice but you don't get to do all rotations in level 1 or even level 2 trauma centers.

CCOM has a much more structured 4th yr with mandatory OMM rotation and significantly less electives.

Can a resident or 4th yr at CCOM comment about rotations?

XC, you are in a win/win situation, my friend. Both schools are amazing! The first criteria you should consider has been met. Both will provide you with an outstanding education. For me, the next thing I'd ask myself is where can I be successful/where do I fit in best? The next thing I'd think about is finances. I can't answer the question for you, but I can tell you that you will not make a bad selection. Good luck to you!

To add to this, given that CCOM rotates at some similar sites with students from the surrounidng chicago medical schools, does this affect CCOM students in any way? Do you feel like there is more competition per say?

I asked this same question to the some of the students that stopped by while we were waiting for our interviews. They said it wasn't a problem. These were 2nd yrs though, so I don't know if that's entirely accurate for the 3-4 yrs. CCOM has, without looking it up, 28 affiliated hospitals so I imagine there is a lot to go around. Not to mention, most of the MD students will be doing a lot of their cores at their institution's medical center. With a lot of other med schools in the area, it's also logical that the hospitals will be more comfortable/geared toward teaching med students. In any case, I see it as an opportunity to out shine our MD counterparts and build CCOM's rep to a large audience of peers and possible PDs.

Save the money (10k more per year at CCOM which will gain interest every decade you are trying to pay it off). Come to DMU. Plus its awesome here.

OH YEAH! dmu 2014 baby!!!

I didn't even go to my ccom interview cause I didn't want to face this decision. Can't wait to start.
