I just got offered an interview at DMU. Very excited! They also said they have two interview days in Portland.

I live really close to Portland so this would be muuuuuuuuuuch more convenient, but I do have some questions about the interview day. How much do you miss as far as learning about the school if you interview in Portland?

My thought at this point is I might do the interview in Portland and then, if accepted, fly out to DMU to check it out. What do you guys think about that plan?

I was just offered interview there too. I think if you live near Portland that is a great plan. I live in the Bay Area (CA) so for me it's probably more cost effective to go to Des Moines for the interview. Good luck.

when are the interview days in pdx? i sent in my secondary last week but am still waiting for my letters -- i should be able to get those in by early september at the latest. do you think that blows my chances for the pdx interview?

i don't know, though, it might be nice to go to des moines. living in des moines sort of scares me, so i'd like to reassured that it's okay.

Hey,

The Portland dates are 10/29 and 10/30 (a Saturday and Sunday actually!). With your numbers they should give you an interview light-speed.

Where in the Portland-area are you from? I'm actually from Battle Ground but I'm headed back to Washington State University Friday for school way over in Pullman.

I live in Portland itself and have for about three years. we just moved here randomly because we had read good stuff about it, and it's lived up to my expectations. 🙂

portland's such an odd choice for the interviews, though. why not seattle or somewhere more major?

congrats on the interview offer!

How do you figure it is more cost effective to interivew in Des Moines? I'm also from the Bay Area and looking at airfare, I can't find any thing under $420 round trip to go to Des Moines but I can get to Portland for under $200. I'm also stuck on what to do so open to suggestioms from anyone. Thanks!

I got an invitation to interview as well. I chose to take the Portland interview because it is close to where I live. I called the office and the person told me that it would not hurt my chance of getting accepted. In the event that I am accepted, I can always take a separate trip to DMU for a campus visit. They will have faculty and students at Portland to present, and videos to show the campus. Therefore, I chose to take the Portland site. Hope this helps.

Try Southwest Airlines. I just bought tickets for my interview at KCOM and I am flying into De Moines. It was only $108 each way. I am also going up to Portland, and it almost cost me the same amount except that I have a friend to stay with in Portland and not in De Moines.

Sorry it was to Omaha, not Des Moines, only 1 1/2 hour drive further and 200 dollars cheaper.
