DMU Post-Interview Response time.

Hey guys i was just wondering, at the interview at dmu they told us that we would hear back in 2 weeks. Does it usually always take this much time, or can they let you know sooner? Any people who heard sooner?

I interviewed a couple weeks ago and heard back exactly a week later.

I interviewed on January 19th and got the e-mail on January 26th, so also one week later! I was very impressed with the school. Good luck to you!

They said you would hear back within two weeks and I heard back in 13 days and my buddy in 12 (yes, I counted!). They are really good about getting back ASAP to you. Just look for an email, Offer of Acceptance, and you are golden.
 
I interviewed at DMU on Jan. 20th and was e-mailed an acceptance on the 26th!!! That is only a six day turn around!!!
(why can't all medical schools be this efficient?)
 
i interviewed 12 days ago and i am still waiting for a response. good luck!
 
i interviewed about 13 days ago. on jan 11.
i STILL have not heard anything and i think that i'm prob rejected. bc most people that have gotten in say they heard back w/in a week.
whats up DMU?

today is Jan 24. how can you be emailed an acceptance in 2 days and still know about it?
 
Since you guys are curious...Our Director of Admissions is out of town this week so I don't know what that will do for those of you waiting. The Dean makes the final decision so I don't know if her being gone makes a difference or not. Hope this eases some tension...

If you notice at the bottom of his post it says that he is currently in med. school, so that means he interviewed last year.
 
I HAVE FOUND THE ANSWER!!!

as most of you guys who have interviewed probably already know (since we are compulsive email checkers), the dean is out of town. so we (those waiting for a decision on DMU) will not find out until "early next week".

I am waiting as well. The Dean was out last week, and I guess all the decision need his final approval. From what I heard, the interviews from the 11th,12th,18th, and 19th have not gone through him yet. He is expected to go through them this week since he is back. Hopefully we will hear some good news this week. I can't wait since it is my #1 choice. I have heard that the acceptance to DMU after interview is in the +75% range. Can anyone confirm that?
 
I heard the president say it is 65%
 
Yeah, I'm still waiting to hear back as well...I interviewed on the 12th and the anticipation is killing me. In her email, Risa said we would "probably" hear back early in the week? It is already Tuesday, so hopefully tomorrow, right...?

Yeah I was hoping for the same thing. I have been checking my email about 1-2 times an hour yesterday and today. It is killing me!!

I think it's getting pretty ****ty of DMU not to get back to us by now. DMU was my first interview (1/11) and I've already heard back from both of the other schools I am interviewed at.
I know its being nit-picky, but "early next week" means Mon. or Tues. They should have said "Mid to late next week" because that is the reality of it.
And to think, I said thanks to Risa for giving us an update...

In defense of the admissions commitee (who does read these boards BTW), they are swamped and are working as fast as possible. Be patient. The dean just returned and I'm sure has a stack of applicants to look at. Good luck to ya'll but be patient and happy. 😀

I know it is hard to wait, but nothing to get upset about. They will let us know as soon as possible. I am in the same boat as you. I can't wait to hear back from them, hopefully it will be good news as I will send in my deposit the same day. As far as the dean, how much say does he have in the decision? Does he bascially take the Adcoms decision, look it over and make sure they came to the right decision and just "rubber stamp" it or does he actually carry a lot of weight in the decision? I have a feeling it is more of a formality for him to look over the apps?

He can and does override the adcoms decisions sometimes. That is why he is the dean. But I'm pretty sure he sticks with the adcoms decision unless he finds reasons otherwise.
 
Jbone, I apologize. The anxiety is just killer sometimes. You study, take the MCAT, fill out apps, interview, and now you know that you are just so close and those 3-4 years of hard work just might pay off....
I'm sure they are working hard, from my visit everyone seemed very friendly and had a personal interest in our success.

The decisions were sent out about 10-15 min ago. I am a little disappointed since I was put on the alternate list.🙁
 
I have my email... accepted. Sorry about the waitlist Harvey. I am so happy I actually shed a few tears. Not happy about a $1000 seat deposit, but I'm not complaining about it either.

Congrats! At least I didn't get rejected flat out. I still have an acceptance to my #2 school, now I just have to put down a deposit for my seat there. I just wish that it didn't come down to this.
 
I have an interview at Wayne State Monday, and haven't heard back from a number of other schools. I'm glad I decided to wait to send the secondary and money to KCOM and CCOM now. Do you know when DMU's scholarship committee meets? Would my email have included an offer for that as well?

I don't really recall when they meet. But I thought someone mentioned that they meet every month or every other month. I might be wrong on that. You could call and ask. Are you a MI resident?

Sorry to hear about the waitlist Harv. One thing you need to do now is be persistent. Let them know that DMU is your #1 choice and call and send letters from time to time to check on your status. It can't hurt you and the upside is that it will improve your chances of acceptance. Keep your head up but DON'T GIVE UP! Need to have you here next year. Let me know if there is anything I can do for ya. Congrats to those who received their acceptances, you should be proud of a great accomplishment. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you. Keep us posted.

Thanks J. I sent you a pm about what you would advise me to do. I was really depressed today when I heard back from DMU. But who knows, maybe things will work out.

Not a MI resident, a Minnesota resident.I was very happy to get an OOS interview.

Des Moines seemed to be more numbers focused than I had expected. I got my interview before submitting a secondary, and the first thing they said when I sat down at the interview table was "I'd like to commend you on your gpa and MCAT."

Did you all get the same feeling? What are your scores(if willing to share)?

As someone who does interviews, I can assure you that the MCAT comment as a compliment. I wouldn't look too much more into it. If you did well, we would like to recognize you. That being said, there is much more than numbers involved when interviewing/accepting someone...esspecially at DMU. But of course numbers do matter, they are a filter that allows DMU to narrow down their search. Especially for the class of 2011, which I think will be fantastic and probably our highest ranking class yet. You need to bring your A game or it could be ugly.
BTW, out of state or instate, it doesn't matter to DMU. They are a private institution and doesn't care either way. Good luck to ya'll. To those who have PM'd me, I'll get back to you when I get a second. Micro and Physio are PWNING me as we speak.
 
Do you have any stats about the accepted class so far? I'm not necessarily saying they shouldn't focus on MCAT and gpa. Because of their fastrack interview, and impressive school, I didn't even send in my secondary to 3 other DO schools.

I know about the in/out sate. That was a response to a question about wayne state.

No, I don't have the stats and won't have them until next year. I say this because of the quality of applicants I have personally met with and also the large amt. of applicants that have paid their deposits so early in the interviewing season. I personally have been so impressed with the students they have brough it this year, makes me kind of jealous. 😀

oh and sorry about the Wayne State thing.

Anecdotally, from reading the boards, it seems like all the schools are more competitive this year. DMU seems to be especially up, though. I'll be curious to see how the numbers work out for next year.

Why don't you email Risa Quade. If you don't have her email, pm me and I can get it for you. Or you could give DMU a call on Monday and see what happened. Maybe they sent it to the wrong email. Don't give up yet.
 
Yea i'll give them a call on Mon. i suppose.
maybe they got mad at what i posted on sdn (how i just couldn't wait any longer for the decision).

Hey. I called today and asked about the status of my application. I interviewed on the 26th Jan. Risa said... yes... you're accepted and that they had a whole stack from a while and they were sending emails out at around 2:30 today. Hope this helps. So call if you were on pins and needles like I was! 😀

I called Risa today too and found out I was accepted. I interviewed on the 25th. She said that some emails were going out at the end of the day.🙂
 
I emailed dmu last week on thurs i believe but didn't get a response.
I called them about an hour ago and unfortunately my file was involved in a mix-up. Apparently my file came back from the admissions committee but did not have a decision w/ it! 😱
So they have re-sent my file throught the committee again and i shall expect to hear back w/in "a few days"
So hopefully the wait is indeed only "a few days"
 
Interviewed on the 25th, received the e-mail today. Man, I don't want to wait until May... 🙁
