For anyone who filled out the DMU secondary, did you put anything in the additional comments section??? If so what did you put? I searched the forum but didn't come up with anything helpful? I was thinking of either talking about "why osteopathic medicine" or talking about the bad year I had that affected my grades, blah blah blah?? Any advice???

I just put how "excited and interested" I was in DMU. I also put in a little more about myself that wasn't in my other application.

I didn't put anything additional. If you feel like you have something to say that will help your application, do so, otherwise, leave it blank. Definitely DO NOT repeat things that are elsewhere in your app (aacomas or DMU apps)!

G'luck

I didn't put anything extra. If I were you I wouldn't put any explanation for bad grades either. You may never have to bring that up, unless you are asked about it in an interview.

Good Luck! :luck:

I would take advantage of any optional space you get, on any secondary. On most of them, I wrote "why osteopathy" since I had not included that in my original personal statement. On the DMU one though, I explained to them why I liked their school and also what I thought I would be able to contribute to them. I believe my secondary essay was a bit on the lengthy side, ~ 1 1/2 pgs. Whatever you do, just don't repeat your primary, and write it well.

I didn't put anything there. I was one of the first people to be interviewed there this year and got accepted a week after the interview.

In other words, don't feel like you have to put anything there. If you want to, you can explain why you are interested in DMU, but then, it will just make your answer to that question sound all the more boring during the interview when you repeat yourself. If DMU wanted specific additional info on the secondary, they would ask for it. One of the things I liked about applying to their schook is it that the secondary was so easy to fill out. Why ruin that?

btw-I hope you get interviewed, DMU is a really great school, I was very impressed.

I only advocate writing in optional space as a way for the admissions committee to see that you, as an applicant, are genuinely interested in them; ie. you took the time to write something specifically geared towards them. I would recommend that if you are not an exceptionally strong candidate, you write something. I don't believe anything can hurt you in this game (ie. extracurriculars, research, optional essays, etc.).

It's all up to you though. If you're not compelled to write something, then don't feel obligated to. Point being, do whatever you're most comfortable with.

I would not advise drawing negative attention to your application though, unless you really do have a legit excuse for "bad grades," etc. You might want to try focusing on something more positive about yourself, or somehow change that negative into a positive by showing you might have overcome some obstables.

Heck, I didn't write anything in the comments place... it's a place for explaining something wrong.

Then again, don't worry about it, in the interview they'll ask you to explain anything "wrong" with your application so might as well leave it blank.

I didn't put anything in the comments either. I was invited for an interview less than a week after I submitted my secondary, and two weeks after interview I was accepted. It really comes down to the interview day, it is jammed, but it gives a lot of different people the chance to talk to you and make an impression.

p.s. I didn't end up there, but I still think it is a great school.

Do you think that I'll get a response from DMU as quickly as you did? (one or two weeks from time secondary submitted?) I'm just wondering if you heard back so quickly b/c of your stats or b/c you submitted everything very early or both?!

my application's been complete at dmu for almost 2 weeks, and i've not heard anything from them. i believe my app. is pretty competitive (3.32, 27, other good stuff), so i don't think their response rate is based on good stats. it's fairly late in the cycle, so they're probably going to be a bit more selective, and a bit slower. what does your application look like?

I'm not sure how well my stats will stand up this late in the game. Sci 3.33/Cum 3.41 with a 29Q on the MCAT. However, I had a 4.0 this past semester with a ton of science classes so if AACOMAS had those grades to use my sci and cum would be much higher I think. Pretty decent EC's, so we'll see. I'm not holding my breath, but I'm not giving up either! 🙂 If I want to send DMU my updated transcripts, should I just send them or should I call or email first to give them a head's up? Thanks! :luck:

I had my letters submitted about a week or so before I sent in my secondary. My stats weren't spectacular... I had a 27R and a 3.6 gpa, science 3.5 gpa.
