I would appreciate it if someone lets me know which school is better. Thank you very much.

DMU hands down...😉...not biased at all...

Better is definitely relative. A better term would be which one is the best fit for you? Is location a factor? Which Touro (NY, CA, NV)? Educational quality? What about cost? I would look at all of these factors. I think what UIC Killa means is as far as educational quality, DMU beats Touro (at least that seems to be the general vibe I've gotton). Ultimately it's up to you!

I've gotten the vibe about DMU being better also. I just applied to TOURO because it's right down the street from me in California. 👍

Your joking right?

I havent heard too many positives from any of the touros and Havent heard any negatives about DMU ( not counting the "I dont like iowa" personal negatives)

I do think Touro-NV has the best setup of the 3....gotta vote for the hometown.

I would agree. From what I gathered at my interview, the rotations are the biggest thing going for Touro-NV. You have the very large city of Vegas next door with no medical school except in Reno. This means very few residents, thus the residents that are there are more than happy to let you do just about anything. I have not interviewed at DMU, but it sounds like they have just about everything going for them...but I'm not sure how the rotations would compare.

That's pretty significant if you ask me.

How did you come up with that? The largest teaching hospital (550~ beds) in vegas "UMC" is packed with residents and U of nevada students. Touros (400~ bed) main hospital has residents and students, but you cant fit 125+ students in there so they go to some smaller 2-300 bed non-teaching hospitals. If touro has set something up with Sunrise hospital(largest in the state 700+ semi-teaching) would give them stellar exposure, but not sure on that. I still think they have good clinicals, but I had to clear some stuff up.

Here's some info on the third year sites for Touro-MI
Arrowhead and Kern medical centers are both very good teaching institutions. One big plus of using some of the local community hospitals in the bay area is that you don't actually have to compete with residents. They also have a relationship with UCSF Fresno and some students have been known to rotate at Highland, and Stanford medical centers (if the big academic environment suits your fancy)

Thank you for the responses. Also, thanks for the time to post the rotations for TOURO in California; this looks convenient as far as location for me, so I may be leaning towards TOURO California even though it sounds like DMU is better.😀

This was something that all the 4th year med students raved about when I interviewed. Although they were not very estatic about the first two years, they said the 3rd was awsome. Since their first class started in 2004, I think the opportunities were improving. It sounded and looked like Touro was doing everything they could to get their students great exposure. They said there were very few residents and most of them swamped and ready to hand down to the med students. They also said very few residents come from Reno. Again, I havn't done much research except asking the med students and the director of admissions. But it sounded pretty good.

I've worked with a Touro CA resident here in Hawaii. He told me that during the 3rd/4th yr clinicals you move around a lot since all the spots local to the bay area are taken up by UCSF and Stanford.

WOW, not good. Maybe I should go to DMU; I do not want to move around a lot.

😎

I've also heard the same thing about Touro CA. On the bright side, they did just get like a 1.2 billion dollar cancer therapy expansion.

haha "better" is such a relative term. Why bother asking this?

but if you're looking for some advice, don't make your decision solely based on one aspect of the school.

I'm not saying that either school is better than the other. What I am saying is don't base your decision to go based on the fact that you think you may have to move around during your rotations.

Go to the schools, interview, and decide if the school atmosphere/environment/student body fits your own personality. Look at board scores, residency matches, and talk to some of the administration and faculty.

Also, really ask yourself if you'd be happy and function well at the school.

You should base your decision on a whole, not just parts of the picture.

DMU post the past 3 years matchlist on there site. 2006 was a particularly good year with 13% getting surgeries, and this doesnt include the poeple listed as intenship, so it could be greater

Tootin..your the ultimate DMU rep!...I bet you do interviews too right?...

From my experience thus far, DMU I think does a great job in teaching you the material but also getting you prepared for boards...which is probably why we get such good matchlists. I mean all this biochemistry in head right now seems to make so much more sense because of the way it was presented rather than normal straight forward drilling of information and you trying to figure out where everything connects to understand the big picture, the professors pretty much do everything to try to get you to understand that, with their diagrams and charts and even all the review sessions they hold just to make it's set in your mind. And I am not sure if other schools do this, but if you get a bad grade on the test, the professor will email you directly and ask to meet with you to figure out what happened. And that on top of your academic advisor giving you a message or for you to go and contact the school advisor as well. I think the whole campus just breeds success because of what they offer to the students

While the Touro subject is upon us ... What does everyone think/know about the new Touro NJ Allopathic school opening up in the next few years?? A good thing ... makes no difference ... bringing the degrees closer in public eye??

I didnt know Touro was opening an allopathic school...I take it will be similar to the MSU and UMDNJ situations...and because many pre-med students know alot more about allopathic schools, it could open up the other "Touro's" to more applicants, and hence a positive for osteopathic medicine overall.

Yeah, they are opening up an Allopathic branch in NJ. I think this would be a good thing for osteopathic medicine ... open up the pool as you put it!
