These are both excellent DO schools, and I'm having a tough time picking one. I know there are more pros/cons to each school, but I've watered it down to the main issues I'm internally debating.

DMU

Pros:
-close to family, friends, SO; also originally from Des Moines
-more affordable living
-Des Moines is a nicer surrounding community
-more depth in the curriculum
-shorter class time than Western? (haven't totally confirmed)
-teachers seemed very involved
Cons:
-rotations localized to the midwest
-close to family is also a con in that my parents can be very controlling/holding me back

Western

Pros:
-better access to California residencies; I want to practice in California eventually
-location/weather
-better access to future practice in Cali
-ability for possible personal growth
-students seemed nicer/more relaxed
Cons:
-curriculum seems a bit inferior to DMU
-further from family/support group
-some rotation spots being taken by new nearby schools

Both also have that community approach that I really appreciate. I don't think I can make a bad choice here, but I just don't want to regret anything. Any input appreciated.

I think you need to learn how to handle yourself around your parents maturely as you are an adult.
Do not run from the issue if you wish to have a healthy relationship with them.
Ill say DMU based on price.
