DMU
Pros
KCU-KC
Pros
I am leaning toward DMU because of its strong board pass rates and excellent residency placements. However, I worry about potentially missing out on the benefits KCU offers, like pass/fail grading and the opportunity to experience living in a new city. My biggest hesitation with KCU is its more challenging curriculum and declining board pass rates.
Pros
- Close to home, with the option to live with parents
- Consistently high board pass rates (#1/#2 in rankings)
- Strong residency placement rates
- Brand-new campus
- Greater focus on OMM
- Have lived in Des Moines my entire life
- Concerns about the quality and availability of 3rd and 4th-year rotations
- H/HP/P/F grading system
KCU-KC
Pros
- Reduced emphasis on OMM
- P/F grading system
- Fantastic interview experience
- Opportunity to live in Kansas City (IMO better city than DSM)
- More challenging curriculum
- Declining board pass rates (currently around 89-91%)
- Potential difficulties securing clinical rotation sites
