So I use KAPLAN and Destroyer mostly to study for my dat.... They both have the same question:

If a strand of DNA underwent four rounds of replication, what percentage of the total DNA present would be comprised of the original DNA molecule:

-Answer according to kaplan- (1/2)^4 = (1/16) or 6.25%

-Answer according to destroyer- (2/16)= 1/8 or 12.25%

I have no idea who to trust because they both have never let me down like this, PLEASE post opinions and reasons why...

Destroyer wants to know % of double strands with the original DNA
starting with 1 double strand, 100% with original
1st rep: 2 double strands, each with one strand of the original DNA, therefore 2/2, 100%
2nd rep: 4 strands, 2 with original DNA, 2/4 50%
3rd rep: 8 strands, 2 with original DNA, 2/8 25%
4th rep: 16 strands, 2 with original DNA, 2/16 12.5%

Kaplan wants to know % of gross mass of original DNA
starting with 1 double strand, 100% original
1st rep: 2 double strands, half of which is replicated, half original, 50%
2nd rep: 4 double strands, 25% original
3rd rep: 8 strands, 12.5% original
4th rep: 16 strands, 6.25% original
