Odd question, but I'm haveing a run of bad luck in 4th year. I'd like to go into psych and have plenty of interviews. My transcripts were already submitted after 3rd year I.E. no fourth year grades went into eras.

I've high passed or honored everything until I hit cardio and pulm in 4th year, was told I did a great job and then only got passes. Not really sure what the heck happened as I was there early, am good with pts, and did very well on my boards so I at least know the testable material. Kinda think I've been typecast, but I don't know if the attendings would really do that they seemed so nice.

Once our ERAS stuff is in and we have interviews is there any need for us to resubmit transcripts before match? If not maybe I an avoid my fourth year grades getting out until after match?

I had the same question and was told that they will get the 4th year grades up to the point when we submit ERAS. After that, all they want is a copy of the diploma

ERAS is all they get until they get you in July (assuming that you graduate). That's why fourth year is usually so nice.

Actually this depends on your medical school. At my school they send our transcripts to ERAS at the begining of September (which usually does not include 4th year grades) AND THEN they send updated transcripts to ERAS on October 15th, so some of my 4th year grades will be included. Also, when you interview with residency programs they may ask to see an updated copy of your transcript. And if you did well during the fall of your 4th year it def. wouldn't hurt your chances to show them some good grades 😳

Other than your grade in an AI/sub-I in your chosen field, your grades don't really matter. We were warned though that if we slacked off to the point of negligence, word might get out that we were lazy bums. So don't skip rounds or show up late, but if activity quiets down, and you're done with your work (or there's nothing left to observe), the M4 thing to do is head for the door. 😀 I'm on a rotation right now with literally no responsibilities whatsoever, so when I've observed all the interesting things there are to see, I leave. Besides, when residents/attendings realize you're an M4, they'll say stuff like "You know, you could leave now" or "What are you still doing here? Aren't you an M4?"

The Dean's letter that is sent out on Nov 1 will have all M4 elective grades that came in up to that point. However, the Deans always dodge the question when I ask them when do grades stop mattering. I think it's a valid question.
