I've heard that UL (Limerick) does not accept FAFSA, that means you can't borrow federal loans to study there. 😱 Is that true? If that's the case, how on earth can American students apply there any more, unless they have $300k to spare 😵

The government is not the only place from which you can get student loans.

private loans have higher interest rates + no deferment option.

That's not exactly true. Payments are (depending who you lend from) deferred while you are full-time, and sometimes for a period of time after graduation/completion of your degree. Sure, interest rates are higher, but that doesn't mean you cannot borrow with them.

It's not the best option out there, but if you want to attend medical school, and are dead set on it... private student loans are options as you can borrow up to post of attendance much like with federal loans... in fact, aside from interest rates, the only true difference is that private student loans can affect your credit a bit more making it more difficult to borrow for future years.

i did take Wells Fargo private loans for grad school for some time; the interest was a whooping 8.9%!
and they say i'll have to pay off as soon as i graduate.
i never want to take out private loans again.

i'm not keen on attending med school on private loans, let alone an international school... it's a sad reality that costs of education are so unaffordable nowadays.
