Despite applying to numerous pharmacies, I've been unable to secure a job. Ironically, volunteering positions, not paying jobs, are backlogged at all hospitals within driving distance. Neither CVS, Wal-Mart or Target accept shadows. I suppose they're worried I'll steal oxycontin.

Gaining pharmacy experience that could lead to a recommendation seems harder than acing organic.

You can go to the website of the colleges that you are intrested in and find that out yourself. No not all schools require pharamcist recommendation.

hornblower,

I can relate to your struggle as the only gig I could get in a pharmacy was a volunteer at a hospital. Unfortunately, the volunteers had very little interaction with the pharmacists so that didn't help my quest to get a recommendation. I finally found a contact through a family friend who knew a pharmacist and though his pharmacy didn't allow shadowing, he was nice to meet with me a few times to discuss my college experience, my goals, etc. and ended up writing me a letter. He used to work for Publix which he said did allow shadowing (not sure if you have publix in your area). Ask around to your family and friends if they have a personal contact with a pharmacist and maybe you can make a connection that way. Usually they are eager to help as they understand the process is difficult. The pharmacist I connected with had only been out of school about five years so we related really well. Good luck!:luck:
