Do Alma Mater's prefer students from their own school?

I know many schools prefer in-state students, but what about students from their Alma Mater? If someone went to, say, University of Washington, would they be preferred for University of Washington COM?

They do tend to take a disproportionate number of their own school, but I am inclined to believe that this is not so much about having gone to the school as it is the fact that many pre-meds will do a lot of work at their home institution's medicals school and thus may make themselves more appealing because they are known entities.

Assuming you are visible to the medical school, do research in their departments, pay visits to the admissions staff to review your applications, etc then the answer is probably yes.

If you think just going to school there will matter, then no. In fact it could be detrimental to your application if you go to school there and they don't know you.
