I was just wondering how possible it is to specialize with a DO? Im interested in these programs, but as of right now Im not so interested in being a GP... is that rare? is it difficult to get a residency thats in a specialty?

DO's specialize in every field that MD's specialize in.

It is harder for DO's to get into ultra competative fields (derm, urology, etc). However, these fields are ultra competative for MD's, too. A strong DO canidate should be able to match into moderately competative MD fields.

Now, DO A SEARCH. This topic has been discussed ad nauseum.

PS: Virtually no one, MD or DO, does "general practice" these days. General practice is a field you go into after a one year internship. Now you pretty much gotta do either a FP or IM residency if you want to practice general medicine - general family medicine or general internal medicine, that is.
