I'm applying only to schools in state. There are a few schools far away that I'd like to apply to, but I don't feel confident about making 1800 mile trips during the semester if I were to get an interview.

Do any do phone interviews? I read that LECOM does, but someone suggested that they were going to stop after this year.

I think they are required to do on-site interviews starting with this cycle

The long distance trips aren't so bad. Consider them an investment =) It's also exciting to turn them into short vacations where you get to go sightseeing and learn more about different parts of the country/world. Many of them are very accomodating and can work around your schedule for an interview date that works.

This TABLE from AACP tells you the schools that do not conduct interviews if you are not interested in the financial burdens of traveling.

Like binghamkid said, I personally like to travel to interviews despite the cost. My Wingate trip cost about $600 for airfare, a rental car, food (I tend to splurge on food😀) and living accommodations. However, the trip was fun capped off with an acceptance (which I declined, but that's not the point)!
