To the best of my knowledge, the DO apps cost $50 for the first school and $35 for each subsequent school after that. I pave just assumed an additional $6 per school due to LORs being sent from Interfolio, but that i a separate meter for the time being.

I currently have 13 schools listed and when I hit the PAY & SUBMIT button, my total is $610. That averages out to $46 per school, with the first school costing the same as the others. Am I mistaken on the cost or is there a glitch in the Matrix?

It's something like $175 + $35x the first time you send in your application.

It's ~ $50 + $35x the second time you send you application out.

Edit: Holy crap, it has changed. Gone up $20 from last year.

It should be $195 + $35x for the first batch.

So $195 + $35 (12) = $615.

I spent $1,200 last year because I applied to all the DO school.

When you're holding your first acceptance it will all be worth it.

I think a lot of people underestimate their chances. I initially applied to 12 schools and ended up completing only 8 secondaries. I suggest doing a WAMC thread and see where people think your chances are highest before paying all that cash.

What about for people who don't have an MCAT score yet? Normally posting in WAMC thread are useless without that score. I'm trying to finalize my list of 15-20 schools and cut it down to maybe 10..

So if you could go back you would apply to less? What were your stats like?

Definitely try to narrow down! Is location a factor? That was one way I did it...
You'll find yourself not wanting to complete secondaries for schools that you don't really care about, but its better to figure that out now and not waste time/$ on the primaries.

But you can also calculate the total cost and see where that puts you. Many schools waive secondaries if you got a waiver (e.g. NYIT, Western, Touro-CA); you can usually find this info on their website. This way, you know how much you're looking at. Good luck!

Yea I mean I have been sitting on my list since like September. There are maybe 8 or 9 that have stayed on my list since the beginning. Then there are a couple others that I keep swapping around. I am limited by population in surrounding areas from the school, since my wife works. Typically, her job does not exist in places that are <100,000 people within 30 min. So most of my schools are around cities, which ironically usually makes the schools more competitive, which is why I keep tossing on other schools which brings it to 12ish haha...

I have $1,992 in my bank account saved for the entire process. Since I received the financial assistance, thats likely then $250 for primaries, then maybe 75% of the schools cover secondaries, so maybe 150-250 for secondaries. So then 1500 for flights and whatnot. God help me when I have to put a deposit down. I need to get into PCOM... 250$ deposit woot.

I feel ya, I ended up getting a no-interest credit card for my deposit ($500 then $1500 at UNECOM). It's brutal! Wish the DO's would move to a system more like the MD (no deposit until May, and it's like $100 if I'm not mistaken).

Lower than yours (c3.2/s3.6/27). On hindsight, I'd apply to 8 but be more realistic than I was. I applied to some schools that didn't make too much sense like PCOM and OSUCOM as a CA applicant. If you can come up with a list of 3 safety, 3 mid and 2 reach, you should be fine. If you choose 10 applications, just add 2 more reaches. There's some regional bias around, so keep that in mind.

Well, you'd realistically need >=30 for Touro CA and NY (unless it's middletown) with that GPA. Rowan won't play unless you're close to that region. You should have an idea of what kind of MCAT to expect if you're taking it in 2 weeks.

Out of the 8 completed secondaries I had 3 invites, 1 rejection post-interview, 1 acceptance and 1 I didn't attend after my acceptance. I only had 1 pre-interview rejection and cancelled my other applications as I got into my top choice, so there was potential for maybe more, although it was already February and think OSUCOM/PCOM was a impossible by then. Also, I applied late (September).

I was the same way. I applied to 10 schools and received secondaries from everyone and completed 5, maybe 6. You never really know though, and at $35 per application for each additional school its not that cost prohibitive.

The secondaries all definitely going to cost you more than 150-250.

Every single school waived it for me in one way or another. Western just gives you your money back 2 weeks later. I have heard NSU does this as well.

Would you be able to break it down?

Lets say you apply to 10 in the beginning. If you get accepted in September then you're done.

If you don't get a favorable response then add 5-6 more schools later on.

The difference is $15 and some time.
