Hi!

I have a few questions about submitting DO applications. I know it opens sometime in the beginning of May for submission but ACOMAS doesn’t release the applications till June to schools for review. Does they mean after I submit the application in May, I will have time to request the transcripts to be sent to them before June?

Thank you!

Yes you can submit your app in may but it won’t be sent to schools until AACOMAS verifies your transcript.

Similar question, I understand we cannot update all sections of the AACOMAS, but if we get additional shadowing experience in May and June, can we update those sections after submitting or just wait to submit the application until the first day or two the cycle opens for submission?

What about for the AACAMAS?

Academic updates (grades etc) can only be done in 3, ~1 month long periods, usually starting in September.

Extracurricular updates can be made at any time even after you've submitted your app to schools. But, if the school has already downloaded your application, the updates won't be reflected. For those schools you'll need to send an email and request they re-download your app to have the latest one.

It's also entirely likely that a school will have made a decision on your application before the academic update period.

So for myself would this be prudent:

Apply to one school as early as possible to verify my app and send in transcripts, then update extracurriculars to reflect the shadowing that I am currently doing for the next few weeks and then submit an application to other schools in June?

Is there any benefit to applying in May vs June seeing as the schools don't receive the applications until June?

No. Sending your app to a throwaway school to get verified is really only helpful if you're waiting for a MCAT score.
Just list your extracurricular with your planned hours and planned end date.

There's no real difference May vs June.

Do I just send in my transcripts ASAP when the cycle opens then?

Lets say DO schools begin looking at apps 6/15. Does it matter if your application is verified 5/15 v. 6/14? Will schools open up apps in the order they are verified or ?

They could by order verified, or sort by stats first. I honestly don't know. @Goro could probably tell you how his school does it.

Given how long the DO cycle goes, it really doesn't matter. This isn't the mD world where things dry up after Labor Day.

But people should NOT apply until they have the nest possible app.
